Moruya is a great base to explore all the region has to offer.
Moruya is ideally located in the centre of the Eurobodalla region making it the perfect place to base your stay allowing for easy drives to surrounding areas and attractions. It is also home to the region’s only airport and REX operates regular Sydney and Melbourne flights. Scenic flights and skydiving are also available for a bird’s eye view.
Moruya sits on the banks of Moruya River, a playground for fishing, kayaking and enjoying the views. Deua National Park forms the rugged forest terrain backdrop behind Moruya and is a haven for birdlife and unique flora and fauna.
The town is a shoppers’ dream, with Saturday morning markets at Riverside Park, antique and second hand stores, beautiful boutique shops offering fine clothes, jewellery and home wares. The granite used in the pylons of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was quarried in Moruya – a fascinating story in itself – and many of the town’s beautiful old buildings are made from the local stone.
Moruya also offers many cafes and restaurants, serving healthy alternatives and great coffee. The River Restaurant offers fantastic fare and water views while the Air Raid Tavern is a popular spot for a relaxing coffee.
Moruya has a great arts culture and event program including the Moruya Jazz Festival which is on every October. The local museum features wonderful exhibits and information about the township’s rich shipping, dairying and gold mining history. While the local golf course is relatively flat and offers a unique twin green, the course is perfect for the thinking golfer.
Just south of Moruya are the small communities of Congo and Bingi Bingi offering seclusion, great swimming and a special place called the Bingi Dreaming Track.
