The charming and dramatic Kangaroo Valley is nestled between Cambewarra and the Barrengary Mountains. Remnants of rainforest cling to the steep rocky escarpments with the Kangaroo River and small creeks crisscrossing the valley into Lake Yarrunga and the awe-inspiring Shoalhaven Gorge.

Hiring a kayak here is a must! Visitors can expect beautiful misty mornings and plenty of wildlife including Lyrebird sightings and resident wombats at Bendeela Camping Recreation area.

Originally called Kangaroo Ground by surveyor James Heehan, the name underwent a gradual change through the 1840s to its current form. With its cafes, artisan shops, delightful stone pub and adventure activities, Kangaroo Valley ticks all the boxes and is a great place to visit for the day or stay for a few.

Be sure to wander over the historic Hampden Bridge, past the cemetery and through the heritage-listed village or visit the Pioneer Museum for a trip back in time.
