About Geelong and the Bellarine

Geelong has been reinvented.

Located on the stunning shores of Port Phillip and Corio Bays, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula is just an hour from Melbourne by car and accessible from the Mornington Peninsula via ferry. You’ll find yourself immersed in a vibrant region brimming with activities. Feel like a bit of retail therapy? Explore designer galleries and boutique retailers throughout the city of Geelong all offering unique pieces from talented local designers.

Old, industrial spaces are being transformed into creative hubs, urban precincts and fabulous eateries. From the conversion of an old mill into the East Coast headquarters of Little Creatures brewing to the transformation of the Waterfront into a spectacular place to stay and play, Geelong has changed. See for yourself.

The bayside region also lends itself to amazing waterfront seafood dining experiences. Prefer to explore the greater outdoors? Wander along the breathtaking waterfront and explore the beautiful botanic gardens, cycle your way around Eastern Park or the Bellarine Rail Trail, a historic steam train line. This vintage steam train is also a must see on the weekends as it’s transformed into ‘The Blues Train’ where you can experience an ‘on board’ music festival.

The Bellarine region is also home to some of Australia’s best golf courses. If you are a lover of water sports then Queenscliff is not to be missed. Here you can charter your way across glorious waters for an afternoon of diving or snorkelling amongst some of Australia’s best reefs and shipwrecks, all surrounded with an abundance of marine life. If surfing is more your scene then Barwon Heads is renowned for white beaches and incredible waves. The region is also known for its boutique wine cellars and vineyards. Portarlington and the Moorabool Valley both offer glorious vineyard views where you can entertain your palate with some of the most highly-rated wines in the state
