History comes alive at Central Deborah Gold Mine
At Bendigo’s Central Deborah Gold Mine you can explore the hidden underground tunnels of a real gold mine that operated during the gold rush boom of the 1900s. Descending to the depths of Bendigo, you are sure to catch gold fever on the famous Mine Experience Tour (61 metres underground), the exciting Underground Adventure Tour (85 metres underground) or Australia’s deepest underground mine tour, Nine Levels of Darkness (228 metres underground).
You will discover what conditions as a miner were really like during the harsh gold rush era and find out what was involved in unearthing the 929kg of gold that was discovered at Central Deborah Gold Mine.
Your ticket also includes access to explore the surface of the mine at your leisure. See the ‘Hand of Faith’ gold nugget replica in the museum and climb the poppet head for a birds-eye view of Bendigo.
The surface of the mine contains original buildings and equipment that were essential to the operation of Central Deborah in its mining days. Explore the old Blacksmith’s Shop, the First Aid Room and the Carbide Lamp Room.
You will be amazed by the Engine Room which contains the Winder that was installed in 1945 and is notable as the only complete working example in Australia. It is still used daily by our mine crew who meticulously maintain the underground workings.
