About the 2 Day Quick Coastal Road Trip Itinerary

A quick two day road trip between Australia's two largest cities, Melbourne and Sydney. Plan your journey to efficiently use the short amount of time. Organise your accommodation in advance or ideally hire a Britz Campervan and stop each night along the journey near beaches and forests. This will give you a taste of the coastline of south-eastern Australia and a feel for the hospitality and food and wine on offer too.

2 Day Quick Coastal Road Trip Day Planner

Day 1

Melbourne to Gipsy Point (Approx. 500km)

(Allow 6.5 hours drive time)
The drive from Melbourne to Gipsy Point initially takes you through the eastern and south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne via the M1 motorway called the Monash Freeway. This road has tolls so look at getting a Citylink Pass. After around 40 minutes you reach semi-rural region of Pakenham and head along the Princes Highway out towards regional centres like Warragul and Moe. From Moe, continue to Glengarry, Maffra, Bairnsdale, Bruthen, Nowa Nowa, Orbost and Cann River.

Day 2

Gipsy Point to Sydney (Approx. 550km)

(Allow 7 hours drive time)
From Gipsy Point to Sydney is a full 7 hour journey taking you through many coastal towns and past many picturesque beaches. Head off early. Plan to pass through Eden, Merimbula, Bega, Bermagui, Moruya, Bayemans Bay, Nowra and Wollongong. Make a quick stop at Jervis Bay along the way. Head in to Sydney on the M1 motorway and marvel as you reach Sydney Cove, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
