Cockington Green Gardens first opened to the general public on November 3, 1979. Created by Doug and Brenda Sarah, Cockington Green Gardens is a family owned and operated business with four generations involved in its creation.
The original display consists of building from the U.K only, however, in 1977 work commenced on developing the international section. This international exhibit was first incorporated into the gardens in 1998. After initial interest from a few Embassies in Canberra, the project has gradually grown into a wonderful multicultural display with 31 countries currently represented, including some from Australia.
All of these buildings are set within beautifully landscaped gardens. We have over 600 varieties of plants, many of wich are miniatures and dwarf varieties. Twice a year approximately 15.000 annuals are planted in border display beds.
Attached to our cafe is the Rose room indoor display. This display includes an international doll collection, two remarkable doll's houses. The larger is a thirty-two room Victorian mansion "Waverly". The other is "Misrule", which is associated with the story "The Seven Little Australian's" written by Ethel Turner.
Other features such as a miniature steam train ride, barbeque facilities, playground, cafe and gift shops makes Cockington Green Gardens an ideal family destination.
